This is our second post profiling a recent recipient of our scholarship. Let’s talk about Jarri. He is from the Kansas City area and is majoring in Psychology & Human Development and Family Science. His ambitions of being a licensed marriage and family therapist will lead him to pursue post-graduate degrees. He also has plans to use social media as a way to share content that will benefit those who might be suffering from anxiety, depression, or trauma. We love that Jarri is dreaming big!
Outside of his school work, Jarri is president of his Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, he is executive vice president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and he is a Resident Advisor in his dormitory. He also finds time to sing in the Legion of Black Collegians Gospel Choir. All of these roles afford him opportunities to advise and mentor younger students, something he always enjoys spending his time doing.
He is especially proud of a fundraising event that he helped organize last year, in partnership with another fraternal organization on campus, where students were given a chance to reduce their stress level. For a small donation, each participant could use a sledgehammer to take out their frustrations on an old Cadillac DeVille. The event raised $1,000 for the March of Dimes. We certainly admire Jarri’s focus on other people, and their well-being, in everything he does. We think he will be a great therapist, and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the future. Make us proud, Jarri!
