Happy Birthday America

Happy Birthday America

To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the non-profit Story Corps has partnered with NPR to create a project called Connect250. The premise of which is to continue their normal mission of documenting the stories of everyday Americans, but in this case they have taken the extra step of pairing people at random and having them interview one another about what life is like in 2026 to form a sort of time capsule.

These stories, like all of their stories, will be archived by the Library of Congress and made accessible to many future generations. This dovetails well with our recent call to write your own story, and earlier this month we participated ourselves to create an audio recording of two average citizens talking about their lives and asking each other questions.

As a family that has recorded holiday gatherings in the past, we are proud of our own recordings, and understand that these will no doubt be invaluable to future historians interested in what the concerns of the day were during our current era. Audio recordings are often even more revealing than the transcripts, and we encourage anyone reading these words to sign up for Connect250, and add your own voice to the historical record.
